Green curtains in a modern interior

Color composition sets the mood for the whole room. Proper selection of its components is considered the basis of a cozy interior. The curtains in the room not only perform the practical function of curtain windows in the dark, they help smooth out the atmosphere, make it a little softer and warmer. To visually assess the possibilities of curtains, it is enough to bare the window, which will look lonely and empty. In such a room, a person will not be able to feel safe, psychological discomfort will put pressure on him because of the acute sense of incomplete situation. The only exceptions are modern styles (minimalism, loft, high-tech), where curtains are replaced with laconic blinds. In such decoration, empty windows are considered to be a justified design decision that is in harmony with the rest of the situation. Green curtains in the interior - a bold and highly controversial choice. Although it is difficult to find a more “natural” color, it hardly adapts in the room. Consider in detail the variety of gradations of green color, ways of combining it with other tones and the rules for introducing it into the interior palette.

Features green textiles in the interior

Green color symbolizes calmness, regularity, reliability and safety. It is the result of mixing yellow and blue, which are inherently opposite, like heat and cold. Therefore, green, depending on the shade, can both calm and add dynamics to the room. In some cases, too intense in brightness textiles may even have an excessively sedative effect, causing apathy and even depression. This color is associated with grass, flower stems, fruits, tree crowns.

Green is widely represented precisely in the flora, although it did not deprive it of its fauna by decorating the backs of frogs and caterpillars, the plumage of exotic birds and the wool of sloths. It is recommended to use it with caution. Regardless of tone gradation, color will always attract attention to itself. Dark green can bring even gloomy notes to the interior, but light shades will raise your spirits and set up a positive mood.

Selection tips - what to consider when choosing

Before you make a rash purchase of green curtains, you should understand their basic characteristics. What matters is not only color, but also the material, its texture, monotony, or the presence of a pattern. Separately, it is worth noting the model range of curtains, which is represented by both simple curtains and complex Roman or Japanese panel structures. Textiles in the interior must necessarily be associated with its theme, that is, the stylistic decision, the rest of the color palette, the location of the furniture and even the zoning of space. Curtains of green color of a bright shade will become an accent element in the room. You can duplicate the tone in a different textile (blankets, pillows, carpets) or furniture upholstery. Pale green curtains are the perfect backdrop for more rich colors.

Variety of shades

In addition to the classic green and its "forest" version, the color can please with a rich tone gradation. Light and bright shades include lime, lime, citrus, meadow (herbal) and exotic chartreuse, which was named after the eponymous liqueur infused with herbs. "Culinary" variations (kiwi, avocado, pistachio) are also considered to be juicy color gradations. These bright colors bring "life" into a boring and stingy interior, so they are not recommended to overdo it. Mill, wormwood, olive, viridian, malachite, jade, emerald and asparagus (named after the plant) are referred to more calm shades. Neutral tones with a large proportion of impurities of yellow, which brings them closer to brown, are considered khaki, camouflage and border mustard. Spring and sea green differ in color "freshness", which will definitely lift the mood in the house.

Compatibility with other interior colors

Green combines well with coral and pink. This combination is often found in nature, so it is pleasant to the eye. Some may find the duet with red too vulgar if bright hues are used. Well combined bright greenish tones with orange, yellow and peach, forming a juicy, positive combination. This is due to the close affinity of colors, since they are located on the spectral circle in the neighborhood. Green and yellow cause pleasant associations with a bright meadow, which is dotted with spots of dandelion heads.

Together with lilac, purple or magenta color forms an exotic combination that will become an accent in the interior. Do not burden this environment with additional dynamic shades. The duet with blue is suitable for spacious rooms, where the "cold" of decoration will not play a cruel joke with the perception of space. Green and cinnamon, beige, and nutty are found everywhere in nature, so this solution will be ideal for a natural eco style. In union with the white and gray color, it forms a light, unobtrusive combination. The combination of green and black creates a gloomy, painful environment, so if it occurs in the interior, then in very small “doses”.

Variety of models

Curtains have a wide range. The range is presented as laconic options that are suitable for country styles in country houses, and intricate designs emphasizing the luxury of the interior of a city apartment. The main models include:

  • Italian The model is equipped with numerous folds that artistically fall to the floor. Approaches classical interiors with a touch of romanticism.
  • Roman. They represent a structure made of canvas, a roller and a special mechanism that winds fabric over it.
  • Curtains of ropes and stripes. Perform exclusively decorative function.
  • Japanese panel. They look like wide vertical canvases that, when moved aside, “come in” for each other in the manner of wardrobe doors.

  • Austrian. Curtains around the perimeter have special ribbons that tighten the fabric along the vertical lines, forming numerous folds.
  • English In many ways they are similar to the Austrian ones, but the number of assemblies is much smaller and each thread symbolically separates the window sections.
  • Rustic curtains. Short curtains that barely reach the window sill. For them, usually choose a fabric with a pattern to emphasize the color of the interior in the style of country or Provence.
The most primitive type of construction on the windows are considered blinds, but even they can be made in a cheerful green color that completely knocks the "office" spirit out of the living room.

The quality of the material and texture

Depending on the material, the intensity of the color of the curtains will also vary. Dense cloths, which are called curtains or drapes, make the paint more saturated. The thinnest curtains or tulle will let the light through, but at the same time the shade will become more airy, light. In the manufacture of curtains, as a rule, use natural materials:

  • Velvet. Usually used in classic interiors, as the fabric is associated with luxury. Velvet curtains have a short “nap”, due to which the green color will be deep and rich. For such curtains recommend choosing dark shades. Do not use velvet in small rooms.
  • Linen. Natural, affordable material with a coarse, "fibrous" texture, vaguely reminiscent of burlap. Green linen curtains fit the country and the Scandinavian style, which also has a natural feel.
  • Jacquard. The surface of dense material, as a rule, is decorated with relief (depressed) drawings made within the same color. Jacquard green curtains will suit both light and strict styles.
  • Silk. The only airy material from this list that weakly transmits light, but can serve as a reliable curtain from the street. Silk is very sensitive to damage (puffs), so the curtains will have to be regularly looked after and not allowed to go to them by clawed pets, eager to show their instincts and hang on the canvas.

Curtains or translucent tulle are made from organza, veil or muslin. In the latter case, not a solid canvas is used, but a set of the finest threads. The organza and the veil diffuse sunlight well, but at the same time they reliably protect them from prying eyes from the street.

Velvet curtains are very difficult to wash and we are talking here not only about the weight of the fabric. After drying, the fleecy material looks very unattractive, since its “bristles” stick out in different directions and appear wrinkled. Iron in this situation is powerless. Velvet will literally comb after each wash.

Plain or patterned

Select curtains with a pattern should be with special attention. Small repetitive patterns fit classic or rustic interiors. Not bad such curtains are combined with wallpaper in a cheerful little flower. Textiles, decorated with large prints, can not be used in cramped spaces. Green color becomes an ideal background for plant ornaments, which together with it look organically and cause pleasant associations with nature. Depending on the subject, the pictures are classified into four large groups:

  • Floral ornament.
  • Patterns with animals.
  • Abstraction and geometric shapes.
  • Prints.

Each type of drawings is suitable only for certain styles. For example, green curtains decorated with geometric shapes and lines will look good in minimalism, avant-garde, high-tech or futurism.

In the interior of different rooms

The tendency to use green in the interior appeared not so long ago, since the appearance of the fashion for a concise, but positive design. Depending on the chosen shade curtains can decorate the living room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom or corridor. The lightness of the country atmosphere of the green curtains on the veranda is emphasized. Let us consider clear examples of using the most familiar color for the human eye in separate rooms.

In the living room

In the living room, green curtains, as a rule, are matched to the color of the carpet on the floor or another large textile landmark. It is impossible to say that in a calm composition the use of this color only in curtains will look ugly. On the contrary, if the living room is decorated in gray, white or light brown colors, the green will play even brighter, regardless of the intensity of the shade. However, more often the color of curtains is logically “tied” in another decor. It can be not only a carpet, but also a rug, upholstery of a sofa or chairs, pillows, small decorations (vases, caskets) or cupboards, cabinets, dresser facades.

In the bedroom

For the bedroom pick up light green, pale or rich shades of curtains. Do not use jade or purple tones in this room. In the color composition, green is usually associated with white and pastel shades in the decoration of the walls. A bed is made out with the same neutral colors: beige, coffee, gray, and nut. Not bad in this room will look fresh mint or olive tint. A bold decision would be a combination of green curtains with the same wallpaper. They do not recommend the use of dark shades, as they are combined "with a squeak" and create an oppressive environment, which is unacceptable for a rest room. Juicy grass or lime curtains look great against the background of pale green wallpaper.

In the nursery

In the nursery, as a rule, use juicy shades of green: citrus, lime, herbal, green. They really "breathe" with optimism and create a favorable environment for both games and for study. In the room for the girl, green is combined with pink or peach. We have already mentioned the “naturalness” of such combinations. For boys, you can pick up a duet with brown, blue or extravagant lilac.

For rooms in which hyperactive children live, it is recommended to use mustard or olive tones. They soothe and cause mild hypochondria.

In the kitchen

For the kitchen are ideal short curtains or roller blinds. To use heavy curtains in this room is meaningless, as the hostess is exhausted by regular washing. Preference is given to light organza or veil tulle. It is recommended for the kitchen to choose the classic green. If you use shades with an admixture of yellow, too warm atmosphere will cause excessive appetite. An excess of blue tones in variations of green can suppress the "urge to hunger" and make the room uncomfortable, slightly "prickly."

Making a veranda in a private house

Veranda in a private house is usually used in the summer. This room can become a temporary kitchenette, greenhouse, study or rest room. Lightweight organza air curtains are ideal for the veranda. They can be combined with the same weightless white tulle. If the design of the veranda has pronounced classical features, then it is better to opt for a plain textile of mint, jade, emerald hue. These tones "cool" the interior, so it will be nice to hide from the summer heat in it. In the village verandas, brighter and more juicy variations of green are used, which are successfully combined with lace tulle. Curtains are usually tied up so that they do not "swell" from each gust of wind.

In the design of the Russian veranda, you can use linen green curtains that complement the themed decor of burlap or straw.

Conclusion

Do not give up green just because it carries too much positive charge. This color, like yellow or orange, is often neglected because of excessive dynamism and intensity. Dark shades of green are perfectly combined with strict interiors. Many overlook the ability of color to adapt to the situation, to emphasize the strengths of the design and to successfully mask defects. So absolutely any shade can play if it is matched correctly. Green is characterized by doubleness, so whether it will accompany the general interior melody depends only on the designer.
