Almost all styles of decoration of the premises appeared in various localities or states. They show the climatic features of the area, the customs of the people living and their character. No exception is the Scandinavian style in the interior, recently enjoying great popularity. Many people of our state liked this style, and the number of its fans only continues to grow.

Nordic character

As is known, the north of Europe is usually called Scandinavia. It is home to various nations with a rich culture and values.

The Scandinavian style as a whole is a general concept characterized by the features of the very harsh climate of the north with the often silent inhabitants of these places. This style has the following features:

  • Nature in northern Europe is quite harsh, there is no multicolor, characteristic of the southern regions. For this reason, peace and a certain moderation prevail in the color scheme of the style. The interior contains a monochrome and light shades. To add a highlight, it is necessary to use juicy bright notes. This is reminiscent of a brief bloom in the spring in the cold part of Europe.
  • The basis of the style is the thoroughness and practicality characteristic of the local inhabitants. Residents have to deal with the elements, creating a strong and reliable housing. Thanks to this approach, simple, ordinary-looking furniture, durable windows, warm rugs and bedspreads appeared.
  • Residents of the north appreciate the functionality and practicality. Here everything is orderly and carefully planned.
  • For the interior are characterized by such features as restraint, cleanliness. This effect is due to the predominance of bright colors. The floorboard is also light, which is unusual for our homes.
  • A key feature of the style is the use of natural materials. Furniture, decoration, textiles and decorative elements - all of these elements must be of natural origin only.
  • This style is not for those who like a catchy, bright-looking apartment. For the Scandinavian style, almost all elements are discreet and restrained. This is fascinating in its own way, like the beauty of the nature of Scandinavia.
  • The abundance of light sources is another characteristic feature. In the north, the night lasts half a year, so the Scandinavian peoples are very demanding on the quality of artificial lighting. The abundance of various fixtures, such as chandeliers, sconces, table and floor lamps should at least partially replace the lack of sunlight.

You should be attentive to the technology, selection of materials, quality of finish to get the interior, the corresponding Scandinavian.

When preparing the walls, special attention should be paid to the quality of the work performed. Painting can be with the use of textured paste or even, but before this wall must be carefully aligned and plastered.

Some of the interiors of the modern model suggest the finishing of walls with bare brickwork. It is inherent in Scandinavian design with elements of industrial style. The most typical wall finish is painting. Wallpaper may look good on the wall, but they are much rarer.

According to representatives of the Scandinavian people, the use of wallpaper can not be called practical: temperature drops cause them to dampen, and if you want to change the design, many problems arise. Repainting the walls in order to refresh the style is much easier and faster.

The zonality of the room can be emphasized by finishing one or several walls under cement plaster, which looks a little rough. The way is typical for new interiors in the Scandinavian style.

Finishing the ceiling is also done with great care, very carefully. If the space between the floor and the ceiling is small, it is often limited to painting the latter. But if the distance allows, wooden beams can be used as decorative elements.

They are painted in the color of the ceiling or opened with a non-shiny acrylic lacquer. The location of such beams on the ceiling is often arbitrary. Laminate, parquet or planks can be used for the floor. The first is produced mainly by companies from the Scandinavian countries. The most popular are light gray colors for flooring. Often use almost white shades of a tree that has grown old. So it seems that the floor is covered with ancient boards, which spent a lot of time on the ship, turned white from constant contact with sand and salt.

The Scandinavian style is not among the retro styles, but for it there are often no time markers. Such items as the old anchor from the ship, a table of the corresponding style, aged floorboards will correspond to the philosophy of the style.

To get a Scandinavian interior, you should carefully approach the selection of furniture. The style simply does not allow any frills: a comfortable living room with a table and a sofa, a kitchen table and wardrobes. The window is usually settled area for leisure. This idea will be especially good if windows open up a good view.

The furniture is mostly wooden, with white or light tones. The presence of a fairly huge number of modules to save various things is a key feature of the furniture. Such modules are often open. For storage of items not for prying eyes use containers, baskets and drawers installed in open compartments on the bottom shelves or in the middle.

Textile use

Scandinavian style is difficult to imagine without the use of textiles. It is used for curtains and furniture making (its upholstery).

Do not give preference to textiles with bright colors, which will look redundant in a practical and discreet style of this type of interior. It is better to forget about ruffles, flounces, other elements or apply them to a different style. Used fabrics must be of natural origin, often used knitted fabric and materials with an average and high density of fabric. The bedspreads, blankets and capes on which animals are traditionally depicted, waves on the sea surface or snowflakes look good.

A rather interesting solution is to use knitted sweaters, scarves or shawls as blankets. The interior image can complement the small neat pillows. The most fashionable today are restrained pillows using simple geometric patterns, or bright pillows with a colorful coloring.

Decorative items

Elements made of natural materials (a rod, metal, a tree, clay, their combinations) will be suitable for an interior decor in this style. Scandinavians mostly live off the coast of the ocean or the sea, recognized by experienced shipbuilders, sailors and fishermen.

This contributes to the inclusion of rather unexpected elements in the interior, for example, fishing nets as curtains. In the interior, you can often see stones turned by water, objects from ships (for example, anchors), models of ships and other decorative elements.

Presents in case of various local holidays Scandinavians use dolls, baskets of wicker and dishes, knitted things. They are carefully stored and serve as a decor. The design of the modern sample often uses prints, decors of simple geometry. Pictures made using pure bright tones can be used.

A separate place should be allocated white ceramics, which is presented in the form of vases, bowls, plates and other kitchen utensils. Considered fashionable various glass products. It is impossible to imagine the interior in the style of Scandinavia without lamps, which are used by a great many. Much attention is paid to artificial lighting, represented by floor lamps, chandeliers, wall lamps and other lamps. It seems that the whole interior was created as a background for lighting fixtures that abound in the premises.
